This year marks the 80th anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War. In an interview with the newspaper "Ana tili", the head of state Kassym-Jomart Tokayev said that the 80th anniversary of the Victory in World War Two (the Great Patriotic War) will be celebrated in Kazakhstan on a large scale.
Prior to the celebration, South Kazakhstan Research University named after M. Auezov launched the project "80 days - 80 good deeds". The opening ceremony was attended by the Chairman of the Board and University Rector, Darkhan Ahmed-Zaki, faculty members and students.
The Rector emphasized the importance of the initiative, saying that remembering, honoring and respecting the heroism of veterans - both on the front lines and on the home front - is a common duty.
"This year we celebrate the 80th anniversary of the Great Victory. Today's event marks the beginning of a series of activities dedicated to this important date. Our university has launched the '80 Days - 80 Good Deeds' project to commemorate this milestone. Until May 9, we will host daily meetings with veterans, mentoring sessions, roundtable discussions, poetry evenings, photo contests, athletic competitions and more. Each event will highlight the courage and dedication of Kazakhstanis who participated in the war. As descendants of the Great Patriotic War veterans, we will keep alive the eternal flame of victory and preserve the memory of those who fought for our homeland," said Darkhan Zhumakanovych.
During the memorial evening, participants honored fallen soldiers and homefront workers by lighting the Eternal Flame. Students and faculty of the Department of Culture and Arts performed a theatrical performance called "A Soldier's Letter".
The "80 Days - 80 Good Deeds" project has a special meaning for Auezov University, which was founded in 1943 during the Great Patriotic War. At that time, the university trained construction specialists who later helped rebuild war-torn cities and towns.
The project will run for 80 days, until Victory Day.
