M.Auezov South Kazakhstan Research University today hosted a special meeting with ambassadors from the European Union and 17 of its member states, gathered under the theme "Shymkent: Advancing Educational Diplomacy for Global Partnerships".
The event aimed to strengthen international ties with European universities - through joint degree programmes, academic exchanges and scientific cooperation - while creating new opportunities for students and faculty members.
Among the participants were representatives of Shymkent Akimat, university faculty, young researchers and students from across the city.
Chairman of the Board-Rector of M. Auezov South Kazakhstan University, Darkhan Ahmed-Zhaki, welcomed the guests and wished them a productive visit to Shymkent.
"President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev of the Republic of Kazakhstan has consistently emphasised the importance of international cooperation, especially at the regional level. His policies focus on strengthening global partnerships in science and higher education - and today's event is a clear reflection of that vision.
As the economic hub of southern Kazakhstan, Shymkent plays a vital role in expanding international trade partnerships and fostering new opportunities for scientific advancement. Our university is proud to contribute to the city's development as a centre for innovation and research. It is a true honour for us to welcome you to Mukhtar Auezov South Kazakhstan University. We believe that your visit will serve as a meaningful step in deepening ties in the field of international education," said the Rector, who also introduced the guests to the University's scientific potential and global partnerships.
At the conference, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Roman Vassilenko spoke about Kazakhstan's efforts to deepen international cooperation and support Shymkent's economic growth. He also praised the university's progress and there are plans to establish a branch of the University of Arizona at Auezov University.
Ambassadors from several EU countries - including Monika Iversen (Germany), Iván Róna Otto (Hungary), Madalina Lupu (Romania) and Eva Pålano (Sweden) - shared valuable insights with students about educational opportunities and cooperation.
Young researcher Yerkebulan Raimbekov presented a collaborative project he is working on with international scientists.
Meanwhile, Altynai Salam, a fourth-year International Relations student who participated in an academic mobility programme in Latvia, shared her experiences and spoke about the global opportunities offered by the university.
